The Company
We launched Start With Smart in 2017 for one reasonโฆ we knew we could improve the security industry across Devon and Cornwall with our fresh approach to technology, an absolute attention to detail and a desire to improve the market with every installation that we completed.
The company was launched by Scott Simpson and Scott Dunn who between them had over 30 years of experience in the security and tech industry across the South-West region. One director spent time working at the top end of the industry designing and installing bespoke systems across the region, while the other director specialised in the technology and business growth area. What they learnt in those fields, theyโve brought to Start With Smart and now, our business combines those skills with state-of-the-art technologies to deliver bespoke, robust security solutions.
Scott Simpson
Scott Simpson holds the position of Company Director at Start With Smart! ๐
His role is defined by tackling the challenges that come his way and improving various aspects of processes, from office arrangements to how teams work together. Alongside this of course he is assisting clients to establish and reach their objectives, always striving for positive outcomes and happy customers and clients.
During his off-duty hours, Scott values spending quality time with his family, taking long dog walks, immersing himself in the latest cinema releases, and engaging in outdoor activities such as; paddle boarding, sea swimming, trips to the beach, watching his son Alfie play rugby and kicking Alfieโs butt in FIFA. โฝ
Beyond his family life, Scott’s interests include snooker, occasional gym sessions, socialising with friends over meals, and staying updated with the latest in technology. Learning about new tech advancements intrigues him and he loves to be ahead of the game and demonstrate his new knowledge. ๐๐

When he’s not busy spearheading projects and tackling technical challenges, you can find him doing a whole bunch of cool stuff that keeps him smiling.
Scott’s secret sauce? He’s a people person through and through. He absolutely loves meeting our diverse customer base and getting to know their unique tales. And trust us, some of those stories are real page-turners! Helping others is what gets him up in the morning (along with a strong cup of coffee, of course!). But wait, there’s more! When Scott’s not ruling the project world, he’s jamming away on his guitar, strumming sweet tunes that leave us all mesmerized. And guess what? He’s a true family man, taking leisurely walks with his loved ones, cherishing those priceless moments.๐ธ
Oh, and let’s not forget the virtual realm! Scott’s a gaming wizard too. But don’t worry, he knows when it’s time to put down the controller and focus on the task at hand. No mixing business with gaming here!

During her leisure hours, Shayna’s all about living life to the fullest! Whether she is at one with the sea or falling from walls at her bouldering gym, she thrives on staying active and energised. She always has a heart for the community and dedicates time to volunteer with outstanding not-for-profit organisations.

Meet Liam Burton, our fire and security technician apprentice currently making waves. For Liam, every day is like a new level in a game, filled with cool stuff to learn and challenges that keep things super interesting. He loves that his job always throws something different his way, making each day an unpredictable adventure! ๐ฅ
When he’s not busy being a tech whiz, Liam is all about gaming. It’s his ultimate chill zone, where he can kick back, have fun, and hang out with his friends in the virtual world and real life. He’s also a big sports fan. Right now, he’s on a bit of a break from the sports field, but he’s itching to get back into it, balancing the adrenaline of sports with the brainy side of his apprenticeship.๐ฎ
Hanging out with his buddies is a big part of Liam’s life. Whether they’re exploring around town or just having a laugh, he’s always up for a good time with his mates. Liam’s all about striking that perfect balance between work and play, ensuring he’s nailing it at his apprenticeship while living it up as a teenager.
